jack, dog, awakes (my sky fall down)

my sky collapsed like a continent

my voice broke in that thin air

before you
up-seen,
then carbine-down

those slits of spirits
came faster than crack
like a lizard of light in a night of black

my captain
i watched you rise
spit acid into that lizard’s green eyes
our silent radio sat sad with a round in its chest
so when come the spoon-pop
your tobacco-breath all stop
at last made good the promise of rest
when i awoke
i’d lost you in a confusion of crows’

high on their jet-fuel smoke.

forgive me my captain

jack, dog
