Just a elephant doing elephant things

salmon shall run no more
bears shall sit their haunches
eddies shall pass them by
they shall fish no more
once rounded belly-fat
once sleekly-coated
they shall gaunten like a feral cat

that elephant arise
dies
in the full blast of his hyena sunrise

sparrow at the bullfight
on that blade, dragonfly, alight.

the black dog took her blue death in stun-brown texas

the breach dolphin navy-grey took her final chosen exhale
into the ship’s screw, the whale

hers are hackles in the twister there
she snaps,
she sails,
her teeth bare

that bamboo refused the stand upright
relief in the voices of birds and bees who no longer alight

the pull
so glacier
the rot
so quiet
